Born in the 1930s, Brian lived in and around Oturehua in the Ida Valley for 64 years, and still lives in Central Otago. Brian shares his family’s early links to Central Otago, and the Ida Valley before moving on to talk about his knowledge of early goldrush days in the area. He shares recollections of his father’s work at the Golden Progress Mine and of the importance of rabbiting to the family’s income; of his schooling, sporting activities and the harsh winters. Brian talks about his work as a youth on Mount Albert Station, his adventures as a rabbiter, and later running Becker’s Transport.
