In this brief interview, Judith reminisces about her early life growing up on a farm near Gore. Her five brothers and sisters were all musical, and Judith herself achieved a diploma in piano performance, ATCL, when she was 19 years old. Later on, she put her musical talents to great use leading the Millers Flat School Choir.
Judith and her husband Rod farmed at Heriot and Judith recounts some of the trials and tribulations of rural life, such as driving huge distances for her children’s sporting events, and the dangers of the nearby highway to both children and pets. As well as the challenges, there were also benefits of living in a close-knit rural community such as socialising with other mothers in the Plunket group. The family then moved to Millers Flat where Judith, a keen gardener, had a thriving market garden known in particular for its ‘pick your own’ tomatoes.
