Nothing.
That is the answer from Maniototo residents regarding what they would change about where they live.
However, the emphatic answer comes from survey results based on a small sample size.
The ‘‘Your Place, Your Community’’ survey garnered 96 responses, which equates to about 6% of the Maniototo population, and 63%of the responses came from Naseby residents.
The Central Otago District Council survey was conducted online and on paper, ran from August 2 to September 6, and asked three open-ended questions:
‘‘what is the one thing you like about your place?’’, ‘‘what is the one thing you would change about your place?’’ and ‘‘what is the one thing you would like your place to be known for?’’.
In her report presented to the council, community development officer Nikki Aaron said in analysis of the responses, the majority of respondents said they liked the peace and quiet and relaxing lifestyle.
‘‘Possibly due to the high responses from Naseby, the majority of responses want their place to be known for ‘our quaint historic character and heritage’.
‘‘When asked ‘What is the one thing you would change about your place?’, the most common response was ‘nothing’.’’
The purpose of the survey was to gain insight into what communities valued about the place they lived in or identified with, to help the council to understand and work towards those ideals, Ms Aaron said.
