The focus of this fascinating interview is Alison’s experience as a patient at the Waipiata Sanitorium. Alison was diagnosed with TB when she was just a teenager. She spent 18 months at the sanitorium in the late 1940’s following a three-month stay at Oamaru Public Hospital. Alison talks about the facility itself, the treatment she received, and her daily routine while a patient. She also recounts the social life and the arts and crafts activities patients could participate in, such as making moccasins and tatting.
