Jim Sullivan is a renowned writer, broadcaster and oral historian. He was the founding host of the popular Radio New Zealand program Sounds Historical, which explored New Zealand’s past through oral histories, interviews with authors, and listener contributions.  In this interview with Russell Garbutt, he shares his earliest influences and forays into humorous writing and the beginning of his radio career, and includes a behind-the-scenes look at what goes into writing regular newspaper columns and books. He discusses the value of oral histories, the importance  of making them accessible to people, and interesting experiences interviewing Robert Muldoon, among others.
