In this interview with Sue Johnston, Robin describes his early life growing up in rural South Africa, and how apartheid influenced his decision to emigrate to New Zealand with his wife Margie and their three young children. They first lived in Tolaga Bay where Robin was offered a job as a project manager putting in new vineyards. Robin then took on kiwifruit consultancy work in Katikati. A family holiday in Wānaka reignited Robin’s love for grapes and led quickly to the purchase of land in Bannockburn. Over thirty years, the Diceys have established themselves as wine growers, consultants and are the founders of the renowned Mt Difficulty enterprise.
