In this engaging conversation with Russell Garbutt, Tony reflects on a life deeply connected to Clyde, Earnscleugh and Central Otago. Born into a large family, Tony begins by sharing memories of growing at Earnscleugh, the influence of his hardworking and academically gifted mother, and the contrasting backgrounds of his parents.

The interview follows Tony's journey through school at St Gerard's and St Kevin's, his early working life in orcharding and then butchery, the trade that became his career. He recalls overseas adventures in England, including working in London's largest kosher butchery, before returning home to establish his own successful business in Clyde.

Tony also discusses rugby, friendships, family life, meeting his wife Yvonne, raising their children, and the challenges and rewards of community involvement. Along the way he offers personal insights into the Clyde Dam era, the changing orchard industry, local politics, and the transformation of Clyde from a service town into the visitor destination it is today.

Tony's  stories, humour and strong opinions provide valuable insights into  the people, places and events that have shaped both Tony's life and the wider Central Otago community.
