Heritage Central Otago, in collaboration with the Central Otago Museums Trust, and with the assistance of Radio Central, is delighted to introduce Digging up Central: History and Tales from Central Otago – a new podcast series that brings the stories of our region to life.
In each episode, we will be exploring some interesting part of our heritage. Where possible, we will be drawing on our rich collection of oral histories, as well as local knowledge, including that held by the five fantastic Central Otago museums. From well-known moments to lesser-told tales, each episode uncovers layers of history, with local voices at its heart.
Whether you’re a long-time local or discovering the region for the first time, Digging up Central offers a fresh and engaging way to connect with Central Otago’s past. Our first episode, ‘Fatal Curve: Rail Disaster at Hyde’, brings to life the tragedy that unfolded on a cold June morning in 1943 near Hyde.
